Upon arrival and prior to the ceremony the Bride and Groom will be greeted by the Marriage Registrar and escorted to a private interview.
The interview is essential to ensure that all the particulars are correct and that the required certificates are available. The Bride and Groom will also need to give their natural or legally adopted father's full names and occupations.
You will need to bring at least two other people who are prepared to witness the marriage and sign the Marriage Register and who are not minors.
The ceremony will begin with a short introduction by the Superintendent Registrar. The Bride and Groom will then be asked, in turn to repeat the following solemn declarations:
I do solemnly declare that I know not of any lawful impediment why I
---------------------------------------------------------------
may not be joined in matrimony to
----------------------------------------------------------------
(rings may now be given and received, if desired)
I call upon these persons here present to witness that I
----------------------------------------------------------------
do take thee
---------------------------------------------------------------
to be my lawful wedded husband (wife)
Additional words may be used if required, but these cannot have any religious connotations. The formal signing of the register will then take place after the couple have been declared to be husband and wife. Following this the Registrar will be pleased to assist in arranging photographs. If you would like to make additional ones, we will be happy to discuss with you adding suitable words to the Ceremony.
* Since February 1997 a simpler form of wording is now permitted by law. Ask your Superintendent Registrar for details.
