AVERAGE
COST OF WEDDING ‘TOPS £ 15,000
If you are thinking of whisking your partner away to
some romantic location to pop the question this weekend,
you might want to have a word with your bank manager
first.
According to research published today by You & Your
Wedding magazine, the average cost of a wedding has
now reached an enormous £15,764, over half the
national average salary.
The most expensive parts of the occasion are the honeymoon,
costing on average £2,826, and the catering,
at an impressive £2,447.
The average wedding dress, plus trimmings including
shoes, veil, jewellery and headdress, comes to £ 1,304,
while the grooms outfit works out at a relative bargain
at £197.
Photography and a professional video comes to a further £ 1,259
on average, while the total cost of flowers reaches £481.
On the bright side, though, you may not have to bear
the financial burden of love alone, more than half
of the respondents said they would be roping their
families in and sharing the cost of the wedding with
both sets of parents.
And most couples will not be taking any chances. Almost
two-thirds have said they will be buying wedding insurance
to make sure the big day is covered should disaster
strike. That doesn’t include a no show by the
bride or groom, of course.
Luckily, the average couple will manage to recoup
some of the cost in the form of lots of lovely presents.
The average total cost of a wedding gift list comes
to £1,450.
