Tips on Flowers

Choosing Wedding Flowers – Tips and Hints.

There are several things to be considered when choosing flowers for your wedding, one of which is are you, the groom or any of your bridesmaids allergic to fresh flowers? If so, you would probably be better ordering silk flower arrangements as you do not want your big day ruined by one of the wedding party constantly sneezing! Also, silk flower arrangements can be kept as keepsakes of this, the biggest day of your life Most brides choose fresh flowers for their bouquets but you have to think about seasons as there may not be as many fresh flowers available for a winter wedding as for a summer one. You should also choose a florist that is reliable and if possible one whose work you have seen.

Should the bridal bouquet be huge? If the bride is a size eight she will be swamped by a large bouquet so the trick is to keep things in proportion. Bridesmaids` bouquets are generally smaller than the bride`s so a flower ball of roses with ribbon to hang on their arm makes a pleasant change. What about flower accessories? Posies of roses with flower jewels are attractive and perhaps the bride`s posy could have a collar of feathers so it looks different from those of the bridesmaids. Your florist will be able to advise you about using accessories

What about the colour scheme? Some brides choose their own bouquet to be made up of white flowers such as roses or calla lilies with a contrasting colour which matches their bridesmaids` dresses. This is a nice idea as the groom and best man could also have buttonholes the same colour and if this colour matches their waistcoats how fantastic the photographs and the whole look of the wedding could be. Corsages for the happy couple`s mothers could be organised to compliment their particular outfits whilst other guests could have matching rosebuds for their buttonholes.

Is it a church or a civil wedding? If a church wedding, a substantial arrangement to compliment the wedding is very often placed in a prominent position by the altar with smaller arrangements attached to the ends of pews. Civil weddings are becoming ever more popular and many couples choose a venue for both the ceremony and reception. If this is the case, the arrangements chosen to decorate the Registrar`s table may also be moved after the ceremony and placed on the top table during the reception. What about centrepieces for your guests` tables? If flowers are chosen, try to compliment the colour scheme of the wedding party.

If you are one of those lucky arty people who is able to make your own flower arrangements and buttonholes and you decide to use silk flowers, several happy hours will be passed if you enrol your friends and family to assist you.

Flowers for this special occasion require considerable thought but if you have chosen a reputable florist, decided on your colours and flowers and/or accessories, all should be well and perhaps twelve red roses given to each mum will add the finishing touch to your special day.
